Flash Incognito Comics Catalogue Cover - May 2001 I think my studies of Norman Rockwell are starting to pay off. The composition and design of my pictures is slowly improving. Tony, the model I use for Jay Garrick, is just right for the part. He's kinda noble and heroic in a down to earth way and craggy, not wrinkly looking like Clint Eastwood or Kirk Douglas. Basically, he's good to draw and paint. I think the main thing I've learnt from Rockwell is the manner in which he approached a picture: who he used as a model and the subject matter he depicted. He chose people who were interesting to draw and were real. For example, if he wanted a fireman, he used someone for a model who was a fireman. The end result was more often than not a pic that was both well executed and authentic without looking staged. I've got a long way to go with this aspect of my work, but I'm glad I've cottened-on to this principle. I think I've captured what I was after in Jay Garrick's face. The ocean on the other hand...
