This painting forced me (via Dez Skinn's comments) to acknowledge a problem I had with pretty much most of my pics during this period.

Because of time or circumstance I usually posed myself for most of the photo reference material. In this particular case, I posed for every guy in the painting and it shows.

Since this cover I've made a concerted effort to find new models who are suited to the character I'm painting. One of the problems I've found with using photo reference is that I'm the only one who knows what I want and how to act it out, but at the same time I have to be behind the camera to see I'm getting the image I want.

I still like Jay Garrick and Wonder Woman in this image - the Icicle is pretty cool too.
